Illuria ILLURIAN ELVES
The elves of the Eld, known as Illurians, deeply appreciate nature and its gifts, having a close relationship with the animals of the forest.
Culture
The Illurians consider themselves to be Sylvan servants of Ilerin, god of life and nature, and they venerate the sylphs. They live in hollowed trees. Herbs are harvested for healing purposes. A tradition practiced by elven families is the making of a protective amulet for each elven child. These amulets serve the purpose of magical conductors, akin to wands.
Government
The Illurians are governed by the Four Courts of the Seasons.
The Court of Spring represents "Life". This court looks after the general welfare. They serve as spokesmen for the common people, and are responsible for medicine. They are also responsible for diplomacy, and most heads of the Spring Court are either well-seasoned diplomats or influential religious leaders.
The Summer Court represents "Joy" as this season is the season for travel and exploration. As such the Summer Court is responsible for education and scholarship, the judiciary, and the civil guard. The Summer Court is typically headed by the oldest judge, though sometimes it is an accomplished and multi-disciplined scholar.
The Autumn Court represents "Harvest" and so represents agriculture and natural preservation, but also trade. Well-respected rangers and forresters have found their way to the Court as well. The Autumn Court is also responsible for taxation and the treasury.
The Winter Court represents the dichotomy of "Hope and Despair". They exist to protect from disaster, and pulling the people back from the brink in case of disaster. As such, they command defense. The Winter Court is known for its hard-nosed pragmatists who aren't afraid to get their hands dirty. They maintain the borders.
